Jin Canrong is a distinguished professor at Renmin University of China's School of International Studies. He holds the prestigious title of state-honored “Chang Jiang Scholar” and is recognized as a Distinguished University professor. Professor Jin has held visiting professor positions at renowned institutions such as the Gerald Ford School of Public Policy at the University of Michigan (in 2003 and 2007) and Tsinghua University (in 2006).

Professor Jin has an excellent educational background, having earned a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Shanghai Fudan University, a Master's degree from the Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), and a Ph.D. from the School of International Studies at Peking University. Prior to joining Renmin University, he worked at the Institute of American Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) from 1987 to 2002. Over the course of his career, he has traveled to more than 80 countries and regions.

His social positions include: President of China Society for Futures Studies, Vice President of China National Association of International Studies; Vice President, the Pacific Society of China; Chair Professor of the Forum of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference; Adviser for the United Front Department of CPC Central Committee; Adviser for the Organization Department of CPC Central Committee; Adviser for the State Oceanic Administration of PRC; Adviser for the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of PRC; Adviser for the Ministry of Science and Technology of PRC, Adviser of public diplomacy for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Adviser of economic diplomacy for the Ministry of Commerce, etc.

Research Interest

His studies focus on American politics (US Congress in particular), American foreign policy, Sino-US relations and China’s foreign policy.

Books

His main publications include over 100 academic papers, over 1000 articles for mass media, 10 books and 5 translated books, including Liberal Tradition in America by Louis Hart; Between Hope and History by President Bill Clinton and Diplomacy by Henry Kissinger. As the first columnist in International Politics in the mainland China, Dr. Jin has written for the column of “Focusing on America” on World Affairs (Semimonthly) from 1995 to 1998.
