After completing his undergraduate and postgraduate (MPhil) study at Central China Normal University, he proceeded with his study of history and international history at the doctoral level in the School of History, Archaeology and Classics at the University of Edinburgh. In 2019, he received his PhD with a thesis focusing on Sino-British relations during the 1940s.
